This is the last place on this trip that I have been to before.
It was in the summer of 2006, and I wanted to get to Dunhuang, but Dunhuang didn’t have a train station of its own at the time.
So I had to take a train to here and then get in a car for the rest of the way:
I remember laughing out loud when I saw it:
The whole place seemed to consist only of taxi cabs!

The ride through the desert took about two hours:
Or four days of walking this time.

So here I am in Liuyuan again:
And one thing has definitely changed:
There aren’t as many cabs anymore:
Well, Dunhuang has a train station and an own airport now.
They tell me Liuyuan is not an oasis, so it has to get its water mainly from other places.
“Why is it there then, this little town?” I ask a cabbie who drives me around:
“There are some stone pits in the area” he says, “and a lot of people actually come from other places to work here!”
Hmm…
While grocery shopping I noticed some underwear brands that I found enjoyable – there’s the manga-panties…
…and the boxer briefs for big tattooed guys:
If you look closer, you can probably see the fat dude next to the tattooed one. His undies are called “Boss Pants 老板裤” and there is a small sign indicating that they are “extra large 特大”.

Ich hab am Freitag angefangen einen Blog über eine ähnliche Weltumrundung auf Spiegel Online zu lesen: Der Kerl hat ein Solarauto gebaut und fährt damit von der Schweiz aus um die Welt. An der Stelle wo ich Freitag aufgehört habe zu lesen, war er in Australien (nach einem kleinen Abstecher über die Umweltkonferenz in Bali), zur Zeit dürfte er irgendwo in den USA rumcruisen. Interessant fand ich, wie er die Lage in den arabischen Ländern geschildert hat (von absoluter Ignoranz über das Solarmobil über Blaulicht-Polizeieskorte Tag und Nacht bei jedem gefahrenen Meter war da alles dabei). Ich denke, zu fuss wirst du da weniger Aufsehen erregen, aber was Austin da gelinkt hat, ist schon ein bisschen besorgniserregend. Junge, komm heil an, kay? o.o

Die Füße, ja die Füße… da hatt ich auch so meine Schlüsselerlebnisse.
Bin vom Harz 350 km in 12 Tagen durch das Eichsfeld und Werratal, dann auf dem Rennsteig + Wartburg über den Thüringer Wald, das Schiefergebirge
und den Frankenwald gelaufen. Bei Etappe 3 dachte ich mir fallen die Füße
ab, aber dann gings aufwärts. Dank Fersenpolster und Hirschtalgsalbe (früher haben sie auch Melkfett genommen…). Jedenfalls habe ich gemerkt, dass man mit alle 2 Stunden Füße trocknen sehr sehr weit laufen kann 😉 Sicherlich weißt du das alles schon, aber die Salbe war sooooo gut für die Füße, immer schön eincremen 🙂
Du scheinst ja richtig wieder im Gange zu sein, find ich gut.
