road to Africa
Tuesday, August 10th, 2010I had a good glass of квас (kvass) this morning. This is a sort of refreshing beverage made from – bread:
Sounds a bit weird, but I liked it very much.
The family was going to go camping today, so eventually we all got into the truck and drove around for hours:
I got my first glance at the Eastern Russian countryside.
There was one village that I found particularly interesting:
Population: ca. 100 + a few cows and an umbrella.
You will never guess the NAME of this place:
Новая Москва (New Moscow).
Lol.
We stopped in an area where all trees had stuff hanging from them:
This was apparently a tradition to honor a watershed close by.
Wait, no elephants? Why is this post called “road to Africa” then? Well, to me this whole area looked somewhat like my imagination of Africa:
…especially out of the window of a moving truck:
Once we stopped for a cow on the street…
…and another time we stopped simply because the clouds around the mountains looked so beautiful:
Time for a group picture – Наталья (Natalya), Сергей (Sergej), Рада (Rada) and Кристоф (that would be me):
It took us until about midnight, but eventually we did manage to arrive at our camping destination, along with a group of 太极拳 (taijiquan) enthusiasts who were going to do their training there.
Here’s the location:
Petrova Bay on larger map
There will be pictures tomorrow.
