A walk around town revealed an interesting relic from a time long gone:

“Победа” (victory) it says in the star under “СССР” (USSR). I think it was built to commemorate the 9th of May 1945, the capitulation of Nazi-Germany.

I couldn’t really find any other monuments from the Soviet period. Only some buildings have that distinct feel:

But then there are nice green parks in this town…

…and the people seem to love Bavian-style beerhouses. This one is called “Munich”:

So is there a kind of Soviet nostalgia?

I am wondering about this question. At least one café franchise is playing with the design of the Soviet period, using historical photographs, maps and illustrations as ornaments:

I liked it, and the prices were cheap.
