the third day

It’s been two years since I started out on The Longest Way.

But it feels like yesterday.

Today, I have 1.340 pictures of a bearded fool to document my endeavor:

Size matters? Try this:

For the lazy ones who want to get an overview of the average walking Chris in 2007/2008, here’s the blended version:

WTF??

I am still pondering over 2 questions about The Longest Way:

1) why?

2) why not?

Like most good questions, these ones don’t seem to have any definite answers. Or at least I haven’t been able to put my finger on them yet.

So have I found anything resembling wisdom during this walk?

Hell no!

…but there are so many priceless memories

…and I have made many good friends who I deeply care about:

谢老师 (Teacher Xie) told me to say hi to all of you, so…

“大家好!- HI EVERYONE!”

I met up with him in 成都 (chengdu) this summer, and he is doing great as always, walking and cracking jokes, and ever ready to philosophize.

Well, this is the third day, and I am in Munich:

It’s been one year since I stopped walking.

But it feels like today.

i saw your longest walk video on some girl's blog just now and it was really cool! i am amazed that you managed to keep essentially the exact same facial expression the whole time (except the parts where you made funny little smiles and stuff).

very inspiring. i'll take more time this weekend to check out your blog. thanks for sharing it!

i wonder what was the biggest shock:

    walking

    stop walking

getting to know your personal limitations

    being normal?

    :-)

    all the best for you!

    Hi Christoph,

2 years since started, 1 year since stopped. Couldn't find the answers on why and why not.

To help you : in my case: "why : because I was ready for it". And: "why not : because I was ready for it".

Saying that there's actually only 1 question and only 1 answer.

It's about time to find out by doing the next part of the trip. Only when you have realised your dream, you will know.

I'll ride from Quito to Ushuaïa next year – since I'm ready for that too.

    Cheers, all the best.

    Hi Christophe,

I checked out you blog, nice1. And the video on youtube is amazing!

Peter made a good reflection on these 2 questions! ;-) I'm just saving some money and I'll be ready to travel again too!

I think, we just have to do what we want. You made it, you loved it, great! ;-) Too much philosophiing about why is just a loss of time!

If you didn't do it, you would probably be less zen and be philosophiing way too much about these 2 questions (or just the 1 question)!

Happy birthday by the way! ;-)

Leah: Hehe, I kept the same facial expression only because I didn't want to look more ridiculous than I did anyway!

claudia: …and the best to you too!

Christophe: No time right now, gotta get my degree! :)

    mccabe: Maybe.

    Ingrid: My pleasure!

peter: Hey, nice hearing from you again! So you are getting on your bike again? I am so happy for you! Please say hi to the road for me my friend!

Pix: Hehe, a little philosophizing every now and then can't be of any harm now, can it? ;)

Christoph – I first saw the time lapse of your face photos on MSN – they were what drew me to your blog. Something in your eyes…I saw an old soul there. Reading your adventures made me laugh, cry, and look forward to the next entry. You showed me China that I did not know existed – a place I'll not visit, yet I know more of it! Thank you. Happy birthday – wish you all the best.

    Christoph Says:

Barb: Thank you for your kind words. Why not visit China though?

    Barb Says:

Why not? Why? "I don't know" seems like a good answer. Maybe someday, but there are other places calling me to them first. I might run out of years before running out of places to see! HA!

Chris, just starting to catch back up with your blog. I've missed a few months, but so happy that you are still at it. Today is December 16th, so I have more to read and look at it. See you at the other end my friend …
