riffs over cookies

There I am in Shanghai doing an internship with a large German company. Who would have thought?

The city around me is roaring. To me it feels like being on the inside of an exploding balloon most of the time.

The other day I overheard an old dude complaining to his buddies: ”上海太大了。楼太多了。而且人太多了!“ (“Shanghai is too big. There are too many buildings. And there are too many people!”)

Hm…

On the other hand, some of the people can be very nice. I ride the 64 Bus to work every day, and when I get up from my seat for old ladies and old dudes they always look at me surprised. Then they smile, and it more than compensates for the loss of the seat.

There is a small shop across the street where I usually buy my cookies. It’s one of those 24/7 places. Last night I went in and got me some muffins and some potato chips and a bottle of coke. Just like a year ago, when I was bearded still, and walking…

The doorbell played its tune, then it died. I was grabbing for some change in my pocket.

Then I noticed the music.

…rhythm guitars shredding muffins to pieces…

…drums kicking the shit out of potato chips and coke bottles…

…rocker dudes screaming “yeah” between verses…

…a metal classic.

Awesome!

So? Shangai – Beijing – the rest of China?

I just saw a French 'reportage' regarding Shangai and the coming 'Exposition Universelle'. They were saying the city is not like China, it's more like a western place.

How do you see Shangai after traveling around China?

On the other side, I’ hope you will keep on posting on the technical aspect of your trip, it was very interesting.

Thank you already for all your time and sharing information.
