day 304: 敦煌 (dunhuang) = 0km
I woke up and I couldn’t really see anything outside:
Sandstorm, again (July 2nd 2008, July 28nd 2008).
“Is it very bad?” I asked the receptionist, “will I be able to go outside?”
“Oh, please don’t worry,” she replied, “it should be alright tomorrow!”
Then a lady went through all the rooms reminding everyone to keep their windows closed.
I stayed in and shot a short video of the funny weather:
(since the original footage looked so terrible and grainy anyways, I fixed this so it would look like an old film or something, kinda liked it better that way)…
I’m hoping I can take off tomorrow though. Remember: I’ll probably be able to do the next update after like four days of walking since the network coverage is so terrible out on the road, so don’t get upset if nothing happens here for a while.
Besides that, I’m in the process of redoing every single link to every single picture on the blog, so they all would point to my new photo storage over at picasa. I’m desperately trying to get as much traffic as possible off my server, that’s what it is. Another advantage is the pictures should load a lot faster, and there are also some photos in there that I fixed up for the blog but ended up not using later, so you can browse through those as well. You can leave comments on the individual pictures there too I think.
Here’s the bad news though: it’s more than 2000 photographs up until now. That means I’ll have to manually update more than 2000 hyperlinks to all the new pictures. I’m two days (yesterday and today) into this most boring of all possible tasks, and I’ve only gotten to the month of March. Now my head hurts.
I just hope that everything will go alright on this next leg of the way.

Picasa find ich gut! Besonder gefällt mir, dass man gleich dort landet, sobald man hier ein Foto anklickt. Bequemer geht’s nicht.
Es läd wirklich sehr schnell. Ich bin auch gerade dabei einiges dort zu “parken”. Trotzdem macht es viel Arbeit. Da kommt so eine “Sandsturmpause” gar nicht so ungelegen. Alles hat halt auch seine guten Seiten.

Hast du keinen, der dir diesen Höllenjob abnehmen kann? Ich mein, rumlaufen, bloggen, Fotos machen, übers Handy hochladen (wie lange dauert allein das schon?!?), unsere dummen Kommentare beantworten…
Und dann auch noch 2000 Links überarbeiten? Maaan, lass das doch mal deinen Bruder machen, dafür hast du ihn doch, oder?

Vom Paradies in die Wüste, die Umstellung ist nicht einfach!!
Mein Sohn hat auch schon mehrere große Reisen allein gemacht auf verschiedenen Kontinenten. Er spart seinen ganzen Jahresurlaub und geht dann für 5 - 6 Wochen auf Abenteuer-Urlaub. Die letzte Reise war nach Patagonien (Chile, Argentinien) bis Feuerland, mit dem Mietwagen (6.500 km) und mehrtägige Wanderungen mit vollem Gepäck. Da habe ich auch tagelang nichts von ihm gehört, weil dort das Handy nicht funktioniert hat.

picasa fand ich erst nicht so gut, einfach aus dem pragmatischen Grund, dass sich Deine Fotos nicht in DER Größe öffneten wie “vorher”. Aber mitlerweile entdecke ich die Vorteile von Picasa und find’s garnicht schlecht-> jetzt mußt Du NOCH MEHR lesen: nämlich unsere Kommentare zu den einzelnen Bildern haha… (wir bitten natürlich auch DA um Antwort ;o). Werde da eventuell in Zukunft auch Bilder hochladen, mal sehen (…ob die vorzeigbar sind).
Verzweifel nicht bei Deinem bad-job des Katalogisierens und Überarbeitens, so was sind Idiotenjobs, aber müsen nun mal gemacht werden…ich wünsch Dir was Alter!
