can danger be a middle name?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008day 153: 蒿店 (haodian) - 六盘山 (Mount Liupan)= 17,2km
I’m not much of an Alpinist.
That being said, I didn’t really like the large mountain range that lay ahead on the map…
But hey, what you gonna do?
Like before, the answer was:
Walk:
…through little settlements to stock up on supplies:
…through the slopes that spiral up and down the mountain side:
…breathe the fresh air:
…look at the mountains that lie ahead:
…and finally turn into a small service road that seems to lead up to the peak:
There’s a small shrine there that looks abandoned:
The road splits into two dirt tracks, with the larger one leading across a small creek:
With the sky getting darker and darker, and the forest getting more sinister around the way, this is about the time to think about where to spend the night:
I’m no fool, I thought.
I had asked people about the potential risks in this area before.
Wolves - none.
Bears - none.
Spiders - not poisonous.
Snakes - come out only in summer.
People - only the friendly farmer kind.
So basically there I sat in my tent, perfectly happy watching movies and sorting out pictures, and eventually I went to sleep.
All the while not having a clue about what it was that was really out there.
I never got to see it.
